Create a PDF and Share Your Tax Documents Easily

While it may be appealing to take a photo of your tax documents and upload these images as jpgs and gifs to our secure online portal, we’ve been experiencing issues such as inaccessibility and corrupted files. Therefore, we are asking our clients to share tax documents as PDFs.  

There is no need for you to have a scanner at home. Your Smart phone or tablet (ipad) can easily digitize any paper tax documents you may have to a PDF format. Here is how:

How to scan a document with Notes App:

  1. Open Notes and select a note or create a new one.
  2. Tap the Camera button  , then tap Scan Documents  .
  3. Place your document in view of the camera.
  4. If your device is in Auto mode, your document will automatically scan. If you need to manually capture a scan, tap the Shutter button  or press one of the Volume buttons. Then drag the corners to adjust the scan to fit the page, and then tap Keep Scan.
  5. Tap Save or add additional scans to the document.

How to scan a document with Files App:

  1. Open Files and select the three-dot menu in the top-right.
  2. Select Scan Documents.
  3. Place your document in view of the camera.
  4. Tap Save or add additional scans to the document.

Android

How to scan a document with Google Drive:

  1. Open the Google Drive App.
  2. Tap the Plus button in the lower-right corner.
  3. Select Scan.
  4. Line up the document in the viewfinder. Make sure all four corners are visible and that your view is mostly flat, and press the Shutter button.
  5. The Google Drive App allows you to review and accept or reject the photo before converting the image to a PDF.

How to scan a document with Adobe Scan:

  1. Open the Adobe Scan App and tap 
  2. Select the document type.
  3. Optionally, tap the   to change flash settings.
  4. Begin to scan using one of the following capture modes:
    •  Auto-capture (default): The App displays the capture screen and detects the document. In auto-capture mode, the App uses live edge boundary detection that displays blue dots to identify document corners.
    •  Manual-capture: Center the document in the window and tap the capture button.
  1. Follow the on-screen messages to complete the scan workflow:
  • Looking for document: The App is looking for the document and trying to detect its boundaries.
  • Capturing… hold steady: Edge detection can see the entire document.
  • No document found. Capture manually: The App cannot detect the document edges.

The App uses auto crop and image cleaning to improve scan quality. The captured scan appears on the screen with crop handles and the modifying tools menu.

  1. On the Capture screen, modify your capture as desired using the tools menu.
  2. Optionally, tap Keep Scanning to continue capturing more documents or tap Retake to recapture the document if you are not satisfied with your current capture.
  3. Once you tap Save PDF, the scan is automatically saved to the Adobe cloud storage. You can open the scan again to modify it.

Once you have scanned your documents with your iPhone, iPad or Android device, you can email the files to yourself. You can then log in to your Intuit Link portal account on your computer and drag the PDF files from your email to the portal. It’s as simple as that!
