Beginning June 2025, N.J. employers with 10 or more employees will be required to disclose a compensation range and benefits in job postings. In addition, employers will also need to disclose promotional opportunities to current employees. An employee is considered to be someone who works over 20 calendar weeks during the year.
This legislation is intended to provide greater transparency and fairness in the job posting and hiring process. Other states that have adopted similar pay transparency laws include California, Connecticut, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Utah and Washington.
Reasonable efforts must be made to advertise these postings for both internal promotions and external hirings. Failure to comply with these provisions will result in a civil penalty up to $300 for the first violation and $600 for each subsequent violation.
